The first appearance of the copper Lotus is in the laboratory of Q, MI6's master craftsman, where it is being prepared for a ski mission as Bond picks up spy equipment. Later, the car is entrusted to the agent so that he can travel to the ski resort of Cortina d'Ampezzo, where he tracks down the assassin Émile Locque.
After escaping several assassination attempts orchestrated by the henchmen of smuggler Aris Kristatos, 007 uses the Spirit with his contact Luigi Ferrara to visit an Olympic ice rink and meet Bibi Dahl, Kristatos' niece. However, while he's away, Locque unfortunately kills Ferrara in the Lotus.
