In 1980, Steve Jobs, the creator of Apple became the main sponsor of Bob Garretson's Dick Barbour Racing Team. They entered in the IMSA championship a Porsche 935 Kremer with a unique rainbow livery and the famous Apple.

Jobs was a huge Porsche fan and found himself involved with the team following work on his Porsche 356 and meeting Garretson at a race car garage near Cupertino, California.

For the 1980 24 Hours of Le Mans, the car was driven by Bobby Rahal, Allan Moffat and Garretson in person, but had to retire due to a seized piston. The Apple Porsche 935 K3 eventually ran seven races, mostly in IMSA.

It could have foreshadowed Apple's iCar, a car as cool as the iPhone or iPod, which unfortunately since the death of Steve Jobs will forever remain a chimera.
