Abstract : 

24H of Le Mans 1964. Far behind the victorious Ferrari, only one of the 5 cars entered by the René Bonnet automobile company finished the event. A year later, it was bought by Matra, an arms specialist, who wanted to use motorsport to sell series cars. Although the first tests were inconclusive, Matra wasted no time in carving out a place among the greatest, thanks in particular to the passion and energy of its engineers. It was not until the 1972 edition that the French team won its first title with 3 cars in the lead! Thus began a fabulous series of three consecutive victories which completed the great reconquest of French motorsport with a new generation of drivers called to enter the legend: Beltoise, Cevert, Larrousse, Jabouille ... and Henri Pescarolo.
