The Peugeot WM P88 No. 51 is a legendary car that made history at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1988 by setting a speed record. Designed by the WM team (Welter & Meunier) with support from Peugeot, this car was equipped with a 3.6-liter twin-turbo PRV V6 engine generating 910 horsepower, specifically modified to reach extreme speeds. The stated goal was to surpass 400 km/h on the famous Mulsanne Straight, an ambition that led to the "Project 400."

During the 1988 edition, driven by Roger Dorchy, the P88 achieved a record speed of 407 km/h on Saturday evening at 8:46 PM, breaking Porsche's previous record of 391 km/h. This feat was made possible thanks to a body optimized in a wind tunnel by coachbuilder Heuliez and the reduction of certain air intakes to improve aerodynamics. However, this performance gain led to engine overheating, forcing the car to retire during the night.
