In 1986, The French pilot Alain Prost wins the Formula 1 World Championship in a Mc Laren with a Porsche engine.

From beginning to end of the season and on all circuits, Alain Prost, the defending champion, battle -driving his McLaren MP4 / 2C powered by TAG PORSCHE- with Nigel Mansell and Nelson Piquet, both drivers of the high performance Williams FW11 with the Honda engine. Before the last “Grand prix” in Adelaide, Prost has three wins and Piquet four, while Mansell won five times and leads the world championship with six points ahead of the French driver and seven of his teammate. The title plays on a race where the two Williams are on the first of the starting grid. Mansell abandoned in the last quarter of the race when his left rear tire burst; Piquet, for safety, is recalled to stand then returned to track and finished second, four seconds behind Prost who retains his title in extremis.

Alain Prost later said that 1986 was the best year in Formula 1. He enjoyed a performance car and a good relationship with his team.
