Real Model – Mazda 787B n° 55 – 24h Le Mans 1991

The Mazda 787B is a Group C prototype powered by a four-rotor R26B rotary engine, entered by Mazdaspeed in the 1990 and 1991 24 Hours of Le Mans. In 1991, car #55 became the first Japanese car, and the first rotary-powered car, to win the Le Mans endurance race, beating the factory Mercedes, Jaguar, Porsche, and Peugeot entries.

Driven by Volker Weidler, Johnny Herbert, and Bertrand Gachot, the #55 787B completed 362 laps (over 4,900 km) and won by more than two laps, thanks to exemplary reliability and careful engine management. This victory remains unique for a rotary engine, as regulations subsequently banned this type of engine at Le Mans, thus giving the 787B legendary status.

Miniature – Mazda 787B n° 55 Winner 24h Le Mans 1991 1/43 Spark (43LM91)

This 1/43 scale Spark miniature reproduces the low, angular silhouette of the 787B, with a long, flat nose, a central glazed cockpit, and a truncated rear end topped with a rectangular rear wing. The green and orange Renown/Charge livery is fully reproduced, with its distinctive diamond pattern and the number 55 displayed on the hood, sides, and rear.

The side air intakes, wheel arches, wing, and numerous sponsor logos are finely printed, providing significant visual depth despite the 1/43 scale. The racing rims and slick tires fill the wings nicely, while the cockpit hints at the bucket seat and steering wheel, completing a faithful reproduction of the 1991 Le Mans-winning 787B.
