The McLaren F1 GTR is the racing version of the legendary McLaren F1. For the 1997 season, it adopted a "Longtail" body—longer, lower, and more aerodynamic—designed to meet evolving FIA GT1 regulations. It retained the naturally aspirated 6.1-liter BMW V12 engine (mid-rear mounted) and the carbon-fiber monocoque structure.

The Davidoff Classic team's McLaren F1 GTR No. 11, driven by Thomas Bscher and Geoff Lees, won the Monza 1000km race on March 29, 1998. It completed 174 laps in 5 hours, 8 minutes, and 55.952 seconds, covering a distance of 1,003.98 km at an average speed of 194.99 km/h. This victory confirmed the F1 GTR's competitiveness in late-1990s GT endurance racing.
