Abstract :

”A” like Aufrecht, “M” like Melcher, “G” like… Grossaspach. Behind these three letters hide Hans-Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher, the G symbolizing the city of origin of the first one. In 1967, these pioneers created AMG, a shop - the first - dedicated to engine preparations and customization based on Mercedes. A new concept was born: high performance, exclusivity, all combined with the legendary quality and comfort of the brand. Renowned for its road and sporting changes, AMG ended up attracting the attention of its neighbor in Stuttgart after twenty years.

Almost all of the extensive Mercedes lineup has since received the AMG “bite”. This book, prefaced by Jacques Laffite, recounts this success story in detail. From the 300 SEL 6.3 320 hp from the sixties to the all-new GT and the latest models with a “45”, “55” or a “63 AMG”, through the competition versions, the 300 E “Hammer ”And special transformations, all eras are revisited.

For this third edition, the author has enriched his work with new themes: portraits of the co-founder and little-known Ehrard Melcher as well as the current CEO, Tobias Moers; interview with the founder, Hans-Werner Aufrecht; photos from the memorable 50 years AMG exhibition at the Mercedes-Benz Museum and numerous historical videos from all eras in augmented reality.
