The 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL W198 I is one of the most legendary sports cars in history, known as the "Gullwing" thanks to its iconic butterfly doors. Born from competition and derived from racing prototypes, it embodies technical innovation, elegance, and performance in the mid-1950s.
It is powered by a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine with direct injection, a very advanced technology for the time, producing approximately 215 hp, paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Thanks to its lightweight tubular chassis and refined aerodynamics, the 300 SL offered top-tier performance for its era, with a top speed often exceeding 240 km/h, making it one of the fastest cars in the world.
The design is instantly recognizable: a long hood, a set-back cabin, sculpted fenders, and butterfly doors give the car a futuristic and sculptural appearance. The interior, luxurious for a sports car, combines leather, chrome and full instrumentation, while maintaining a very “GT racing” atmosphere.
