The Peugeot 205 GTI, launched in 1984, quickly became the icon of 1980s GTIs, thanks to an excellent balance of lightness, a responsive engine, and a very sharp chassis. The 1.9-liter, 130 hp version, introduced in 1987, raised the bar even higher with more torque and performance, while maintaining a low weight of around 900 kg, allowing it to reach approximately 205 km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just over 8 seconds.

The Phase 2 (Mk2), from the late 1980s onward, brought some aesthetic and equipment updates (semi-leather interior, modernized trim elements, carpeting that gradually changed from red to gray, specific 15-inch wheels, etc.).
