At the 1973 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Porsche 911 Carrera RSR 2.8 #43 was entered with drivers Gerd Quist, Jürgen Zink, and Manfred Laub in the GT category, dedicated to the new 911 racing cars based on the RSR platform. From the first generation of the Carrera RSR 2.8, derived from the famous RS 2.7, it illustrates the arrival of the 911 in a more radical dimension in endurance racing, in a 1973 edition marked by the emergence of these highly refined GT cars competing against prototypes.
