At the 1973 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Porsche Carrera RSR 2.8 #49 was entered with the French crew of Jean Égreteaud and Jean-Claude Lagniez in the highly competitive GT 3.0 category, dominated by the new 911 racing cars. Based on the radical Carrera RSR 2.8, a true weapon for Porsche in GT racing in the early 1970s, this #49 illustrates the strong presence of private customers in 911s at Le Mans, competing against the prototypes and factory GTs.
