Twice winner of the Targa Florio, twice European mountain champion, 13 participations in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which he twice finished in second place: the Swiss Herbert Müller was a versatile driver. The man who called himself a "professional amateur" drove everything from motorcycles to Formula 3 single-seaters and even participated in the premier class, Formula 1, during his 20-year career. But it was in Sport Prototype races that he built his record of achievements.

On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of his death, McKlein, a publisher specializing in fine books on motor sports, now tells us the story of this talented and multidisciplinary driver whose career ended tragically in 1981 at the Nürburgring. The book was produced in cooperation with the Porsche Museum Edition. The sports car manufacturer alone provided almost 100 photos and a wealth of valuable information.

Born in 1940 in Menziken, Switzerland, Müller first completed his apprenticeship as an electroplater in the family business. At the age of 20, he made his debut in motor sports and immediately won his first victories. He quickly made a name for himself and was soon invited to take a seat in the cockpits of major manufacturers, from Ferrari to Matra to Porsche. In 1966, he won a sensational victory in the Targa Florio in Sicily in a Carrera 6. A success that he repeated with brio a few years later. He also drove the Porsche 917/30 with more than 1,000 horsepower in the Interseries, leading it to success after success.

Fans far beyond the Swiss borders still remember "Herbie" and his achievements. The memories of her family members and numerous testimonies of her contemporaries enrich the race stories in this comprehensive biography. It is enhanced by an incredible abundance of high quality photos from the archives of Europe's most renowned photographers, many of which have never been published.
