Under the affectionate nickname of Jo Siffert, or Seppi, Joseph Siffert (1936-1971) embodied a form of perseverance and success in the world of motor racing. Born into a modest family from the Basse-Ville of Fribourg - his father was a mechanic - Jo Siffert begins to compete first on motorbike. In 1959, he is Swiss champion in 350 cm3 category. The following year he joins motorsport while continuing to work. He rides a used car sales company, allowing it to finance, even with difficulty, his passion for cars.

Jo Siffert has devoted much of his career in endurance, signing numerous victories including the 12 Hours of Sebring in 1968 and 1000 km of Nürburgring in 1968 and 1969. He also took the start of 96 Grands Prix Formula 1 world championship between 1962 and 1971. Jo Siffert is one of three Swiss pilots with Clay Regazzoni and Emmanuel de Graffenried to have a Formula 1 victory.

On the 24th of October 1971, he kills himself in his car during a Formula 1 race fought out championship on the Brands Hatch circuit.
