Upon his arrival at Daimler, Ferdinand Porsche is asked to build a racing car. The main objective is the victory in the Prinz Heinrich race, reserved for production cars and which takes place on the roads of the Austro-Hungarian Empire from 1909. Nothing insurmountable for Porsche, whose creations are already able to drive at 185 km/h.

The first models are promising, despite technical choices not always stopped, but in the end it is a Mercedes that wins the first edition of the race. Mercedes being then the German branch of Daimler, only Ferdinand Porsche is really frustrated by the defeat. And he must fight to impose a new optimized version of his racing car.

Winning bet : the following year, in 1910, the new cars designed by Porsche win the first three places of the Prinz Heinrich Cup, the first Mercedes finishing seventh. Great satisfaction for the engineer, but also for the driver: Ferdinand Porsche was driving the victorious car! But the event will help precipitate the split between the two branches of Daimler, weakening them both.
