Ferdinand Porsche is the inventor of the first hybrid car. Indeed, a gasoline engine was used to produce electricity for the batteries of the Lohner Porsche Mixed from 1901, developed by the young engineer, then aged 25. This model is the very first Porsche built in series, after the esteem success of the Lohner n° 27 100% electric also designed by the young man the previous year.

This hybrid car reached 56 km/h in top speed, which allowed him to win several speed records and even win the Exelberg rally, driven by Ferdinand Porsche himself. In total, not far from 300 Lohner-Porsche chassis were sold until 1906, in two or four-wheel drive.

Another reward: the Austrian prize for best automotive engineer for Porsche, and other recognition, a few decades later: the development of the famous Lunar Rover, the lunar vehicle of NASA, is very clearly inspired by the brilliant design of Porsche.
