Real Model – Renault 12 Gordini 1972
The Renault 12 Gordini was launched in 1970 to replace the famous R8 Gordini. It was based on the standard R12 sedan but featured extensive performance upgrades by Amédée Gordini. It was powered by a 1,565 cc 4-cylinder engine derived from the Renault 16 TS, fed by twin dual-choke Weber carburetors, delivering approximately 113 DIN hp at 6,250 rpm and 140 Nm of torque at around 4,500 rpm.
Weighing in at around 980 kg, the R12 Gordini could reach speeds of nearly 185 km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in under 10 seconds—performance figures that placed it well above the mass-market R12 models. It featured a 5-speed manual transmission and retained a front-wheel-drive layout but boasted a reinforced chassis, brakes, and suspension, making it a highly capable sports sedan for both road and rally use.
Miniature – Renault 12 Gordini 1972 Blue 418 / White Stripes 1/12 Ottomobile (G101)
Visually, the Renault 12 Gordini is distinguished by its "Blue 418" paintwork and white stripes, which run along the sides of the car, accentuating the lines of its four-door, three-box sedan body. The bodywork retains the classic R12 profile: a relatively long hood, a slightly arched roofline, a rear end with a prominent trunk, and clean flanks, complemented by specific Gordini wheels and a slightly widened track.
The 1:12 scale OttOmobile model faithfully reproduces these features: the Blue 418 paint, white side stripes, Gordini logos, sports wheels, and low-profile tires, alongside a high level of detail on the chrome trim, radiator grilles, and bumpers. The interior, visible through the windows, reproduces the R12 dashboard—complete with specific instrumentation, a sports steering wheel, and better-contoured front seats—giving the miniature the authentic presence of a 1972 Renault 12 Gordini.
