RMS Titanic was one of three sister ships built for the White Star Line. A pinnacle of prestige and luxury, with interiors inspired by London's Ritz hotel, the RMS Titanic was one of the world's largest moving objects in the early 20th century. It featured innovations, such as watertight bulkheads, intended to make it unsinkable. However, she only had enough lifeboats for 35% of her passengers and crew.
The RMS Titanic struck an iceberg on its maiden cruise on April 14, 1912 and sank, killing over 1,500 people. Government investigations were carried out into the disaster and safety improvements were made afterwards, still in effect a century later. The wreck was only discovered in 1985 and has been the subject of numerous books and films, including James Cameron's famous "Titanic" in 1997.
