Enzo Ferrari (1898 - 1988) -

An Italian racing driver and industrialist, Enzo Ferrari founded Scuderia Ferrari in 1929, a team that became a benchmark in Formula 1. Known the world over as the manufacturer of luxury sports cars. Nicknamed ‘il Commendatore’, Enzo Ferrari dedicated his life to motor racing, putting racing ahead of road car production. His brand became famous for its prestige vehicles, building its success through competition.

Alfred Neubauer (1891 - 1980) -

A former mechanic in the Austro-Hungarian army during the First World War, he joined Austro-Daimler after the war, where he worked under Ferdinand Porsche. He tried to break into racing, but failed, before joining Daimler in 1923. In 1926, he became head of the Daimler-Benz racing team and revolutionised the position with his rigorous organisation and authority. Under his leadership, Mercedes dominated motor sport before and after the Second World War, with major successes in Formula 1 in 1954-1955. The Le Mans 24 Hours disaster in 1955, in which 84 spectators died, marked the end of his career, and Mercedes withdrew from competition that same year. Neubauer retired at the age of 64.
