The Ferrari 512 S No. 6, officially entered by Scuderia Ferrari in the 1970 24 Hours of Le Mans, was driven by Italians Nino Vaccarella and Ignazio Giunti. Extremely fast right from the practice sessions, it clocked the second-fastest qualifying time—3 minutes 20 seconds—missing the top spot by just two-tenths of a second behind the Porsche 917 LH No. 25. However, its hopes were dashed within the very first hour of the race: a bearing failure forced the team to retire after only seven laps. This car epitomizes the collective failure of the factory 512 S models at Le Mans in 1970, contrasting sharply with the earlier success of the Vaccarella-Giunti duo, who had claimed a class victory at the Targa Florio that same season.
