The Golf III VR6 was launched in the early 1990s as the top-of-the-line version of the Golf, featuring a 2.8-liter VR6 engine (a 6-cylinder unit with a narrow 15° V-angle) mounted transversely at the front and fueled by a Bosch Motronic injection system. This engine produces approximately 174 hp at 5,800 rpm and 235 Nm of torque at around 4,200 rpm, making it one of the most powerful and refined compact cars on the market at the time.
The car features front-wheel drive and was available in 3- or 5-door body styles, with a 5-speed manual transmission (or an optional 4-speed automatic) and a high level of equipment for a compact car (ABS, power steering, and upscale trim). With a top speed of around 224–225 km/h and a 0–100 km/h time of approximately 7.8–7.9 seconds, the Golf VR6 positioned itself as a "luxury compact"—more comfortable and prestigious than the standard GTI—and is highly sought after today as a modern classic ("youngtimer").

The 1:12 scale OttOmobile G099 model replicates the 3-door body style of the Golf III: a simple two-box silhouette, a gently sloping hood, smooth flanks, and a vertical rear end featuring large rectangular taillights. The green paintwork, combined with a completely stock appearance (VW grille, VR6 badges, and factory-standard bumpers and side skirts), reinforces the "upscale compact" aesthetic typical of the 1990s, rather than that of a race car. The wheels are those of a stock VR6, fitted with 205/50 R15 tires just like the real car, while the interior faithfully reproduces the Golf III’s seats, dashboard, steering wheel, and center console. As is typical for OttOmobile, the highly precise resin bodywork—combined with the glazing and fine details (side mirrors, windshield wipers, badges)—results in a highly realistic replica, perfect for showcasing this cult-classic six-cylinder hatchback.
