Alpine was born in Dieppe, driven by Jean Rédélé’s passion for racing, and quickly forged an identity as a manufacturer of lightweight coupés powered by Renault engines—cars designed to shine in rallies rather than on leisurely drives. The A110 *berlinette* perfectly embodies this spirit: with its rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout, featherweight build, and prowess on mountain and tarmac stages, it dominated the 1960s and 70s—culminating in the 1973 World Rally Championship title—and firmly established "Alpine Blue" in the minds of enthusiasts.

After a quieter period, Alpine made a comeback—first on the road with a modern A110 that revived the concept of the lightweight, agile coupé, and then back in racing with endurance prototypes in LMP2 and LMP1. Notable among these was the No. 36 A480, symbolizing the brand’s return to the pinnacle of the WEC and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Subsequently, Alpine entered Formula 1 with the A521—the first single-seater officially badged as an Alpine—delivering a victory and podium finishes for Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon while giving the brand global visibility on the championship grid.

Today, the A424 Hypercar continues this legacy by once again carrying the number 36 in endurance racing, acting as a common thread linking the historic *berlinette*, the prototypes of the 2010s and 2020s, and the current technological showcase. It all forms a continuous narrative: Alpine remains true to its philosophy of creating lightweight, efficient, and spectacular machines—whether it is small A110 rally cars on Corsican roads or hybrid prototypes battling the world’s biggest manufacturers at Le Mans and in Formula 1.

A Dream Life in Watercolor

Since childhood, Uli Ehret (born in Weinheim, Germany in April 1965) was passionate about cars and painting. At just 16 years old, he began winning national art competitions, and at 21, he opened his own advertising agency.

In 1998, the discovery of watercolor as a medium for depicting racing cars allowed him to make his first breakthrough in art. For his exhibition at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2005, Ehret demonstrated that he had finally found the tool to express dynamism, movement, and vibrations, and that he was now able to represent speed in his paintings. A subtle blend of realistic representation and impressionism. By its very nature, watercolor allows for a representation of movement that can be perceived even in the dust spray from the road and the glow of the brake discs. And the way Ehret utilizes the background adds even more speed to his works.

But his work doesn't stop at this impressionistic style; it is also complemented by the story of a specific race, a driver's life, a competition's high point, or a historical moment in motorsport. Uli Ehret reads extensively about motorsport, both current and historical. His library contains several hundred books on all kinds of cars, drivers, and eras. Thus, a painting doesn't just depict a fast car, but also tells a story about the person behind the wheel or a particular day of racing, filled with historical details.
