Real Model – BMW M Hybrid V8 LMDh n° 2024 – 2023 Test Car

BMW announced its return to endurance prototype racing in 2021, choosing the LMDh regulations and chassis supplier Dallara, with an IMSA program starting in 2023 and an expansion to the WEC from 2024. The M Hybrid V8 made its racing debut at the 2023 24 Hours of Daytona and secured its first victory at the 2023 6 Hours of Watkins Glen, marking BMW's return to the highest level of endurance racing since the V12 LMR's victory at Le Mans in 1999.

The car is distinguished by its hybrid powertrain, based on a 4.0-liter twin-turbo P66/3 V8 engine paired with a 50 kW electric motor mounted on the rear axle, for a power output regulated to 500 kW according to LMDh rules. Its design blends the aerodynamic constraints of a closed prototype (central cockpit, large fins, massive diffuser) with BMW styling elements (stylized kidney grilles, lighting signatures, M motifs) to ensure visual continuity with the road-going BMW M models.

Miniature – BMW M Hybrid V8 LMDh n° 2024 Test Car 2023 1/18 Minichamps (155232024)

The 1/18 scale Minichamps miniature captures the low, elongated silhouette of the prototype, with a closed central cockpit, a plunging nose, and front fenders deeply sculpted around the wheel arches. The volumes are structured by sharp edges and deep cutouts for the air intakes and outlets, visible on the hood, sides, and rear.

The "test/carbon" livery features a dark base and a graphic camouflage pattern covering the entire body, highlighting the lines of the hood, side fins, and rear engine cover. The multi-element rear wing, large diffuser, vertical fins, and aerodynamic appendages are finely molded, with a clear separation between the different parts.

The racing wheels are fitted with slick tires, featuring a detailed rim design and a depth of contact that matches the track width. The cockpit is visible through the windshield and side windows: the bucket seat, safety cell, steering wheel, and dashboard are all rendered in dark colors with a few added details. The underbody reveals the main shapes of the chassis and rear diffuser, completing the overall look with a cohesive finish that highlights the prototype's technical features.
