Real Model – Jaguar XJR-9 n° 60 – 24h Daytona 1988

The Jaguar XJR-9 is an endurance racing prototype developed by Jaguar and Tom Walkinshaw Racing for the IMSA and World Championships; derived from the XJR-8, it was optimized for the 1988 season. It is powered by a mid-mounted, naturally aspirated V12 engine (approximately 7.0 liters) delivering over 700 hp in Le Mans/IMSA specifications, featuring a manual gearbox and highly aerodynamic bodywork designed for long straights.

The XJR-9 made its American debut at the 1988 24 Hours of Daytona and won immediately: the No. 60 Castrol Jaguar Racing TWR entry, driven by Boesel, Brundle, and Nielsen, claimed overall victory. The car finished a lap ahead of the No. 67 Porsche 962, while another XJR-9 (No. 66) rounded out the podium—marking a major success for Jaguar on turf traditionally dominated by Porsche.

The 1:18 scale Werk83 Jaguar XJR-9 No. 60 model faithfully captures the prototype's ultra-low, streamlined silhouette: a long, flat nose, a central glazed cockpit, large faired-in front fenders, and an extended rear section topped by a massive rear wing. The green, white, and red Castrol livery is accurately reproduced, featuring the No. 60, Jaguar and TWR logos, and key sponsor markings tampo-printed on the hood, flanks, and wing.

Air intakes, aerodynamic fins, diffusers, and racing wheels are finely molded, with slick tires that amply fill the wheel arches. Through the windows, one can make out the stripped-down racing cockpit (bucket seat, roll cage, instrumentation), rounding out a 1:18 scale static model that effectively highlights the XJR-9’s character as the victorious prototype from the 1988 Daytona race.
