Real Model – Porsche 911T n° 44 – 24h Le Mans 1968

The Porsche 911T raced at Le Mans in 1968 was a GT version derived from the road-going 911. Powered by a 2.0-liter flat-six engine, it competed in the GT 2.0 class against other 911s and Alpine A110/A210 models. The team was run by Auguste Veuillet, the Porsche importer for France and a historic figure in the relationship between the brand and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

During the race, the No. 44 car (driven by Chasseuil and Ballot-Léna) completed 224 laps before retiring due to engine trouble; it was therefore unclassified at the finish of a 1968 race dominated by the No. 9 Ford GT40 driven by Rodriguez and Bianchi. Nevertheless, this 911T is part of the long history of small Porsche GTs at Le Mans—cars renowned for their endurance and consistency rather than for overall victories.

Miniature – Porsche 911T n° 44 24h Le Mans 1968 1/43 Spark (S9739)

The 1:43 scale Spark model (S9739) captures the classic silhouette of the short-wheelbase 911: a sloping hood, steeply raked windshield, rounded roofline, and truncated rear, featuring the slightly flared fenders typical of the late 1960s. The No. 44 car’s livery is understated: a light-colored body (an off-white or ivory shade), the number 44 displayed in black circles, and Porsche/Veuillet logos alongside discreet technical markings on the flanks and hood. The Fuchs-style or steel wheels, lights, chrome trim, bumpers, and glazing are finely rendered, with the stripped-out racing interior visible through the windows (bucket seats, roll cage, instrumentation). The result is a very elegant little GT that perfectly illustrates the role of the "customer" 911s in the 1968 Le Mans field.
