The Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta Competizione is the racing GT variant of the 250 GT SWB, featuring a short wheelbase, a tuned 3.0-liter Colombo V12 engine (producing approximately 280–290 hp), and a chassis optimized for endurance racing. In 1961, several 250 GT SWB Competizione models were entered at Le Mans—including car No. 16—competing in the highly competitive GT 3.0 class, where Ferraris dominated the top of the field.
Car No. 16 was among the many 250 GT SWBs that failed to see the checkered flag that year; several Ferrari GT 3.0 entries retired due to mechanical issues (transmission, cooling, or electrical problems), while only a few GT cars finished the race, including the class-winning No. 14. Nevertheless, No. 16 remains representative of the massive presence of 250 GT SWBs at the 1961 Le Mans race, where they stood as the benchmark GT cars.
